Quiz nights are a classic fundraising event for a reason – they’re a great way to bring people together for a cause that’s important to you, and they are nothing, if not fun! Here’s a handy guide for organising your own quiz night.
Find a location
When deciding on a location for your quiz, you’ll want to consider the following:
Size – How many people are you expecting to come to your event? Make sure to find a space that will fit all of your potential quizzers.
Permission – You must get permission to run your quiz night from the person in charge of the location.
Weather – Make sure that you have a back-up ‘rain site’ either indoors or under a shelter in case the weather turns.
Choose a date
When choosing a date for your quiz night, try and think about these questions:
Can I coincide my event with a relevant month? For example:
- Brain Tumour Awareness Month: March
- Stroke Awareness Month: May
- Headache Awareness Month: June
Is there a day, or time of day, that’s likely to be busier for your location? For example: Do most people come into your office on a Wednesday?
Get in touch with our team!
Once you have your time, date, and location – it’s time to get in touch with our team by emailing us to events@brainresearchuk.org.uk. We can send you materials to help make your event stand out, including:
- Branded banners and balloons, to make any event stand out
- Stickers – because everyone loves stickers!
- Leaflets all about the research that your hard work supports
- Collection tins and sponsorship forms to collect cash donations
Spread the word!
You want to make sure that you’re telling people about your event in enough time for them to make sure they can come, but not too far away from the date that you’re having it that people forget! We recommend 3-4 weeks before your event to give you lots of time to shout about what you’re up to.
Social media can be a great tool to help you spread the word about your quiz night. You could post on your Instagram story, your Facebook Page, and even your LinkedIn with a date, time, and location, as well as some graphics and charity logos (which you can find here). This is also the perfect opportunity to share why you are wanting to fundraise for Brain Research UK, so don’t forget to share your why.
Create your Quiz!
This is where you get to be really creative. If you’re a natural born quiz-meister, then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get writing! If, however, you’re player, then this is the time for you to either recruit a friend to help you write the questions.
We’ve prepared a very special Brain Research UK themed quiz round ready for you to use.
Prepare for the big day
Here’s a handy check-list for you to make sure that you are prepared for your event:
- I have permission to run a quiz night at my location
- I have written the quiz questions, and have the answers ready
- I know how I am getting myself to my location
- I have gotten in touch with the team at Brain Research UK and asked for fund raising materials
- I have posted on social media to spread awareness of my quiz night
- I have followed the relevant health and safety procedures

Share your success!
Often, lots of donations come in after an event has finished. We recommend posting about your event on social media to remind those that had wanted to donate about your quiz night. Please tag us in anything that you post on social media, we love seeing how you get on!
