My name is Dan and I would like to share with you how grateful we are for the research that helped my wife to recover after an accident that left her with a life threatening brain injury. This is why I support Brain Research UK. Please join me by giving a gift this Christmas to help progress brain research.
A moment can change everything
In April 2023, Becky, who is my wife and mother of our three young children, was run over by a speeding car, leaving her with a life threatening brain injury and in a coma for two months. She was crossing the road at the time with our 11-month-old daughter in a pram and, in the split second before impact, she managed to bravely push our baby to safety.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death and disability in people aged one to 40 years; there are an estimated 1.3 million people in the UK living with the effects of a TBI.
It has been an extremely difficult journey for Becky and, despite now facing years of rehabilitation as she recovers from the accident, she has told me and others that she would do the same again to save our children.
Becky is now home and able to care for our three children. We are all looking forward to Christmas and extremely grateful for the research that has helped towards her recovery. We know that Becky is one of the lucky ones.
We contacted Brain Research UK as we wanted to help others whose lives are impacted by brain injury, now and in the future. Brain and spinal injury is one of three research funding priorities for the charity.
Knowing more research is needed to advance understanding of how to repair the brain and improve the outlook for people like Becky, I was joined by my brother Rob and friend Ross to raise funds for the charity by running the 2024 London Marathon.
We were overjoyed that Becky was well enough to meet us at the finish and very grateful to the many who generously sponsored us. The satisfaction and achievement we felt at the end of the marathon is hard to put into words… completing the marathon but also knowing that we had helped raise much-needed funds for vital research.
We are delighted to continue supporting Brain Research UK. We are so lucky to have Becky home with us and, especially at Christmas, we are thinking of all those families who have been less fortunate. I hope you will join me and continue your support of this amazing charity by making a donation today. Your support means so much to the charity and helps to fund more urgently needed neurological research so that others may be helped in the future.
This Christmas, can you please join me in giving a gift to help fund more life-changing research?
